What this is

mapd.me is a place to keep the places you liked and the reason you liked them, and to show some of them to other people if you want to. It is run by TO BE COMPLETED. Using it means accepting what is on this page and in the privacy notice.

Your account

• You need to be 16 or older.
• One person, one account, and the details on it should be true — particularly the email address, since it is how you get back in.
• Keep your password to yourself. What happens under your account is treated as done by you, and if you think somebody else is in it, tell us.
• Your handle is yours while you hold it. If you change it, the old one is free for somebody else and every link you have shared stops working — the product warns you about this, and it means it.

What you write stays yours

Your notes, lists and places belong to you. We claim no ownership of any of it and we do not sell it, license it on, or train anything on it.

What we do need is narrow and obvious: permission to store what you saved and to show it to the people you chose to show it to. That is the whole of it, it exists only so the software can do the thing you asked it to do, and it ends for any given item when you delete that item.

Marking a list public asks us to publish it, and publishing is not a private act — anyone may read it and search engines will index it. You are responsible for what you publish, including for not putting somebody else’s home address on the internet.

What you may not do

• Publish somebody else’s private information — where they live, where they work, where they will be.
• Publish anything unlawful, or anything that harasses, threatens or targets a person.
• Pretend to be somebody else.
• Use the place for advertising dressed as recommendation, or fill it with lists made to rank rather than to be read.
• Scrape it, hammer it, or go looking for ways around the limits. If you want the data, export it — that is what the export is for.
• Break, probe or work around the security of any of it.

Reports and suspension

Every public list can be reported, by anybody, with or without an account. A person reads every report, and the list stays up until they have. The owner is told the outcome and never told who reported them.

If an account breaks the rules above we may suspend it. A suspended account’s public pages stop answering — but the person keeps their atlas: they can still sign in, read everything they saved, and export all of it. Suspension takes the audience away, not the notebook.

Ending it

You can delete your account whenever you like, from your account page, and it goes immediately and completely — see the privacy notice for exactly what that takes with it. Export first if you want to keep it.

We may close an account that is being used for the things in the list above, or if we stop running the service. If we ever stop, we will say so with enough notice for everybody to take their atlas with them.

What we do and do not promise

We will look after what you saved and keep the service running as well as we can. We cannot promise it is never down, never slow, and never wrong — no honest service can — so it is offered as it is, and keeping your own copy of anything you would hate to lose is a sensible habit. The export exists for exactly that.

Map data, tiles and place search come from third parties named in the privacy notice. A place being findable here is not us vouching that it exists, is open, or is any good.

Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live. Where those rights and these terms disagree, those rights win.

Law

These terms run under the law of Latvia. If you live in the EU you may also bring a claim in the courts of your own country — that is your right and this page does not affect it.

Changes

If these change in a way that matters, the date at the top moves and we email the address on your account first. Carrying on using mapd.me after that is how you accept the new version; if you would rather not, delete the account and take your atlas with you.
